Donna Rutherford

A warm welcome to my site.  I have been working in the realm of art performance as a writer, performer, director & video maker since 1990.  Working on solo and collaborative projects in the UK and abroad with a wide range of artists, musicians and community-based participants. The work deals with versions of personal storytelling.  Increasingly my commissioned work develops through open invites to contributors, as my faith in people’s stories is so strong.  Essentially my work looks at how people deal with, and don’t deal with things in their life - when they are pushed to extremes, or the side effects of avoidance.

My project KIN continues touring in Spring 2012 with support from Creative Scotland.  KIN shall be touring Ireland extensively in early May as part of the Bealtaine Festival and also doing a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe during the month of August.

The two part project was originally created in collaboration with Centre for Contemporary Art, University of West Scotland and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Supported by CS Partners Fund. Gathering the experience of middle-aged children and their ageing parents, KIN looks at how we negotiate this changing relationship in later life.

You will find clips from KIN Performance & Audio Listening Posts at: http://www.vimeo.com/22284221

Under PROJECTS you will find a substantial archive of my work, including video extracts.

You can access information on REARRANGING REALITIES (Taking The Personal Out Of Itself) DVD of Artist Interviews.  Developed during my Arts & Humanities Research Council Creative Fellowship (supported by The Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, Glasgow School of Art, & New Moves International).
