A serious document of international song involving over 60 people and 200 songs to date. The project started in Ghent, Belgium during April/ May 2003. The venue an empty shop in the city centre. The video installation (3 screens involving a live mix at certain times during the day). The sound will be broadcast onto the street, catching the attention of passers-by, encouraging people to stop and listen, or come in and enjoy the comfortable environment. People can stay for 5 minutes or longer during the two hour live mix sessions, enjoying free refreshments and a chance to chill-out and be transported by voices from all over the world. The idea is a simple one: that the people in the project are on their own, away from their own land - unaccompanied - without familiar reference points of landscape, language or shared history. Through the remembrance of the words and rhythm of popular or traditional songs, the viewer will see the person temporarily transported. While the viewer may not get the exact meaning of the words, they can recognise stories of love, loss, departure and life struggles. Audio connections from place to place can be recognised as certain notes, rhythms and styles repeat themselves. ![]() [] view the video (duration 8:27 / 5.8MB) [] YOU'VE CHOSEN NUMERO UNO Extracts from short film Based around the ‘Blind Date’ television game show, three local residents of Banff describe an ideal date with themselves whilst discussing attraction and relationships.
